London Startup, dpms., Launches Patriotic City of Neighbourhoods Initiative
Posted on November 16 2014
London, ON, November 13, 2014 – A local fashion startup that was founded by a couple only a few short years ago is launching a line of retro Canadian toques that represent each of the major London neighbourhoods.
That company is the wildly popular dpms., a clothing and graphic design company owned by entrepreneurial couple Daniel Phillips and Meghan Kraft. What started as a hunt for a unique t-shirt design in 2012 from their apartment has become a thriving Canadian lifestyle brand that includes sustainable and locally-sourced products, clothing, and accessories.
In cooperation with Tuck Shop Co., founded by former Londoner and Toronto transplant, Lyndsay Borschke, dpms. has created a line of hats for the people of the Forest City. Tuck Shop Co, is a Toronto-based brand—luxe yet cozy ready-to-wear and accessories for both men and women—inspired by the Canadian lifestyle of splitting time between the city and the cottage. The City of Neighbourhoods initiative represents a commitment to their roots as local entrepreneurs, as well as their mission to provide homegrown, patriotic goods to each of their growing customer bases.
The London-centric line of hats is a part of the City of Neighbourhoods initiative that will be revealed Saturday November 15th at the Western Fair Market. Colors and designs for each style of the retro ski toques were chosen to reflect something nostalgic from (some of the most) popular neighbourhoods that make up the city. Those featured include Old South, Old East Village, Bryron, Old North, and Oakridge. There is also a Forest City hat in shades of green, white, (gold) and black to represent vintage Knights hockey jerseys.
“City of Neighbourhoods was created to make people patriotic and proud of their neighbourhood,” explains Meghan, the Director of Operations and Brand Development for dpms. “Everyone loves where they live, and City of Neighbourhoods is one way to show a great, beloved feature of a city that is made up of so many incredible pockets of neighbourhoods, each with its own culture, history, and style”
Their launch of the City of Neighbourhoods line marks dpms.’ first wholesaling experience in London, coincidentally landing at the onset of this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Week. The toques can be found at Channers, Heist, and dpms.’s Western Fair Market shop. They will also eventually be available to purchase in stores across the city, with additional neighbourhoods being added in the future.
